When Drywall Has to Be Removed
Trying to dry drywall that should be removed traps moisture and invites mold.
Saturated & Swollen
Drywall that's swollen, soft, crumbling, or has lost structural integrity must be removed — it can't be dried back to a sound state.
Visible Mold Growth
If mold is already growing on or behind the drywall, the affected section typically must be removed and the cavity treated.
Category 2 or 3 Water
Drywall exposed to gray or black water (sewage, overflows) is generally removed for health safety rather than dried.
When Drywall Can Be Dried & Saved
Limited, Clean-Water Contact
Drywall exposed briefly to clean water and still structurally sound can often be dried in place with the right equipment.
Surface Moisture Only
When moisture hasn't penetrated the full thickness or reached the cavity behind, targeted drying can save the material.
Monitored to Dry Standard
We confirm with moisture meters that the drywall and framing reach dry standard before any repair or repaint.
Our Drywall Water Damage Process
Assess & Map
We measure moisture in the drywall, insulation, and framing to decide what stays and what must come out.
Selective Removal
Your provider removes only the compromised sections, protecting the rest of the home and containing dust and debris.
Dry, Treat & Restore
Your provider dries the cavity, applies antimicrobial treatment, then patches, finishes, and paints to match.
Wet drywall and mold go hand in hand
Mold can begin growing within 24 hours on damp drywall and paper backing, especially in Tampa's humidity. That's why we assess every wall for mold risk as part of the process. For visible or extensive mold growth, dedicated mold remediation may be required. Contact us to discuss your situation and we'll guide you to the right service.
